If you run any kind of business or remote operation from home in Nigeria, relying solely on PHCN for electricity is a guaranteed productivity killer. An unstable power supply, frequent blackouts, and unpredictable restoration times make it nearly impossible to maintain consistency. That is why creating a self-reliant, dedicated workspace inside your apartment is no longer optional; it is essential.
Whether you are freelancing, managing clients online, or running an eCommerce operation, your work-from-home setup must be dependable, comfortable, and resilient. A well-equipped workspace gives structure to your day, protects your tools, and ensures your output stays unaffected regardless of what PHCN (popularly known as NEPA) decides.
So, what do you need to get started?
1. 🔋 Inverter + Batteries + Solar Panels (₦600,000)
This remains the most cost-effective route. To stay under budget, you can begin with a 12V 220 Ah tubular battery that costs about ₦280K. And a 1.2 KVA Inverter that costs ₦180k. Budget another ₦140k on Panels and Cables, and you are good to go. You do not want your workspace to depend on PHCN or Generator power, so a solar panel is required.
Total: ₦600K. Based on the above, you can increase the number of panels you want for better efficiency.
2. Steadfast Internet (₦45,000–₦140,000)
I assume you already have a home router or pocket MIFI, so this is not added to the total budget. If you do not, you can get an MTN 5G broadband router for ₦80K, or a 4G premium router for ₦40k. Take your pick of data packages from their website here. I, however, recommend their Ruby (260GB FUP Monthly Unlimited) Plan at ₦45K if you are a heavy user.
Total: ₦125K initial payment, and ₦45k every month.
3. Efficiency & Comfort Essentials (₦390,000)
- Ergonomic chair & desk: Allocate ₦320K. Look for a combo deal such as this on Jiji or cheaper at the nearest office furniture market close to you.
- Rechargeable DC fan: Allocate ₦40K–₦120K.
- Ring Light: Allocate ₦30K for a good buy; this is needed for meetings if you don’t have good natural lighting already in your home.
4. Budget Recap – ✅ Final Setup Under ₦1M
Category | Approximate Cost |
---|---|

1 × 220 Ah 12v Tubular Battery | ₦280K |

Technically okay with the solar power inverter.
